In collaboration with the Ontario Power Authority, the City of Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership (BBP) is offering a new program focused on multifamily residential buildings. The new program Multifamily Energy Efficiency Rebates (MEER), encourages and enables a system approach to your energy savings projects, ensuring that you achieve the best value for your investment.
The City of Toronto’s BBP and Shelter Support and Housing Administration staff are working together with GLOBE, a subsidiary company of the Social Housing Services Corporation (SHSC) to help you take advantage of these rebate opportunities and provide you with the advice and support you need to undertake the application process.
The MEER program is an excellent opportunity to recoup costs for housing providers who have or will be completing energy-savings projects from Jan 1, 2008 to Dec 31, 2010. Space cooling projects that are completed and operational by April 30, 2011 are also eligible for these rebates.
Examples of retrofits that are eligible for MEER include energy audits, heating and ventilation upgrades, plumbing system upgrades, lighting upgrades (interior and exterior), building envelope upgrades (windows, insulation), as well as installation of select Energy Star products (such as refrigerators), ground source heat pumps and solar hot water collectors.
A building has many components that work together such as insulation, heating systems and air sealing. When you strategically plan upgrades to these components, you can maximize operating cost savings, reduce maintenance, and improve the comfort of your residents’ living spaces. By reducing energy consumption you also contribute to the City of Toronto’s goal to lower CO2 emissions, the leading cause of climate change.
