What is a Green Job?

REDY is focused on equipping students with skills for green jobs. A green job is any job that reduces pollution, conserves energy, uses less toxic ingredients or generally improves the environment. On a building site, a green job may include draft proofing and weatherization, fixing leaky taps and toilets, installing energy efficient lighting, or adding renewable energy.

Sample Green Jobs

  • Solar Panel Installer Assistant
  • Weatherization and Insulation Technician
  • Building retrofit work including job site preparation

About REDY

REDY links green jobs, youth unemployment and energy conservation retrofit work by offering a hands-on, practical training program that prepares youth for a range of construction work that emphasizes energy efficient building retrofits. A GLOBE (Green Light on a Better Environment Inc.) program, REDY is delivered in partnership with First Work: The Ontario Association of Youth Employment Centres and Housing Services Inc. and is made possible thanks to the generous support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

For housing providers in the participant cities of Brockville, Toronto and Windsor, we welcome your participation and support for our REDY graduates. Talk to your staff and your contractors about the importance of hiring a trained REDY graduate. We believe that policies that support hiring youth in the green economy are good everyone!
