GLOBE’s Community Champions Program recently garnered international recognition, placing as a finalist in the 2011 World Habitat Awards. Selected from a field of 250 entries from 82 countries, the program was acknowledged for its innovative approach to engaging social housing residents in reducing utility costs and energy consumption in social housing.
To date, the Community Champion program has also garnered recognition from renowned environmental and housing organizations in Canada. Additional awards and accolades include:
- 2011 Green Toronto Awards Finalist (as part of GLOBE’s Energy Smart Initiative)
- 2009 CMHC Excellence in Education Award for Community Champions Trainers
- 2009 Ontario Non-Profit Association’s Resident Volunteer Award to the Lynn Wood, Community Champion at Richview Seniors Housing
- 2009 Canadian Electricity Association’s Sustainable Electricity Annual Report (cited as case study in the power of innovation)
- 2009 Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s Annual Energy Conservation Progress Report (cited as a notable initiative)
- 2010 University of Victoria report, Conserving the Planet Without Hurting Low-Income Families: Options for Fair Energy-Efficiency Programs for Low-Income Households (cited as part of positive developments in Ontario)
