The Energy Smart Initiative of GLOBE Inc and Social Housing Services Corporation is proud to have been named finalist in the Energy Conservation category of the 2011 Green Toronto Awards.
The City of Toronto’s annual Green Toronto Awards celebrate the people, organizations and companies helping to lead the way to a cleaner, greener Toronto. The Energy Conservation category recognizes leadership in energy conservation and efficiency through improved systems, technology and business practices.
Through the Energy Smart Initiative, GLOBE and the Social Housing Services Corporation implemented major electrical retrofits and energy conservation measures for 850 residential units in 11 social housing properties. In the process, staff and residents were trained on the measures taken as well as on broader energy conservation practices through the Community Champion Program, which provides tools and support for resident-driven conservation plans. The result was significant: a 1,331.51kilowatt reduction in energy consumption in these buildings.
